Family of the late prolific writer, broadcaster and former General Manager, Impact Business Radio, 92.5FM, Ibadan, Rev. (Mrs.) Olufunke Alli, has announced burial arrangements of the late public speaker.
Until her death on 14th November, the late Alli ran a column on Marriage and Relationship in Newswatch Times newspaper on Sundays.
According to the family, a Service of Songs shall hold in her honour on 9thDecember 2015 by 6pm at her Church, Innercourt House of Glory, Gorgeous Cole close, College road, Ogba, Lagos. Funeral service according to the family also holds 10th December by 10am at the same venue before the internment at the Atan cemetery, Lagos. Reception follows at the Blue Ribbon event centre, Olayiwola street, new Oko-Oba, Abule Egba, Lagos.
A former board member of Christian media group, Journalists for Christ Fellowship (JFC), she was a leading media mentor and former General Manager of Ray Power 106.5 FM (Abuja), and former General Manager, Super Screen television.
In a statement, JFC’s President and Editor Online/Director, Special Publication, The Nation Newspaper, Lekan Otufodunrin, said, Mrs. Alli was an influential member of the fellowship whose mentorship of young journalists, assuring presence, exemplary life and motherly care would be very much missed.
‘We are shocked by her untimely passing but we cannot question the Creator. We believe that her assignment on earth is over and she has left behind very solid legacies both in the media and in the Church of Christ. We are also consoled in the belief that she has gone to a much better place,’ he said.
According to ‘Sanmi Falobi, JFC’s Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Alli’s demise created a big gap difficult to fill in a hurry. “She was a mother not only to her biological children but to many who passed through her while she was here with us and she would be greatly missed. The sad news came to us as a shock while we at the JFC secretariat always counted on her expertise and godly counsel. She was one name in the Nigerian media that would be difficult to replace. We are only comforted with the fact that she has played her role faithfully and it has pleased the Lord to call her to himself,’ he said.
Until her death after a brief illness, Rev. (Mrs.) Olufunke Alli, was the General Manager, Impact Business Radio, 92.5FM, Ibadan and Dean of the Impact School of Broadcasting and Communication, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Her journey through the media took her across the print, broadcast and online journalism, where she had mastery.
As a broadcaster at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ibadan, she won back-to-back ‘Announcer of the Year’ in 1979 and 1980 Award and then rising through the ranks of FRCN from 1979 to 1989, she left broadcasting thereafter but returned after seven years to get the unique opportunity to work with UNICEF which took her through several trainings and workshops in many countries including the United States, Greece and South Africa.
Alli was not only useful in the media and on the home front, but she also served faithfully in the Church of God. She at a time the Women Coordinator of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos Chapter and later, Publicity Secretary of the PFN Ifako Ijaiye Chapter.
At 57, she is survived by her husband, Rev. Oladapo Alli, her aged mother, children, grandchildren, nephew, nieces and brothers.
