Boat mishap: Lagos to embark on guideline enforcement

The Lagos State government has said that it will embark on aggressive campaign on enforcement of guidelines for commercial boat operators in the state to reduce incidents of boat mishaps along the state’s waterways.

Managing Director of Lagos State Water Ways Authority Mrs. Abisola Kamson said through a statement in Lagos. Kamson was speaking on the backdrop of the boat mishap that happened in Lagos on Saturday along Lagos-Ikorodu water ways.

A commercial boat was conveying 20 passengers and two crew members to Ikorodu when it capsized. According to Kamson, who expressed sadness over the boat mishap noted that, all passengers on board wore their live jackets and rescue operation however averted what would have been a worse situation. She said those recued were moved to the hospital where five of them later died.

Meanwhile the Lagos State government, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode has reassured Lagosians of fulfilling his promises especially as it concerns delivering on infrastructural development within the state.

Speaking at the Ojude Oba Epe festival, Ambode said infrastructure during his administration would receive enough attention.

Amobode said he has spent the first three months to set up institutional framework for his administration and now ready to fulfil his electoral promises.
