National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu has described the late Matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs.) H.I.D. Awolowo as a devout Christian, mother of all, heroine of the nation and a shining example of womanhood.
Tinubu, who led the party delegation in company of other party leaders including Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, Lagos State governor, Akinwumi Ambode, Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, Chief Ayo Opadokun and others to the Ikenne home of the Awolowos, also said, Mama’s contribution to national life would be greatly missed.
Responding on behalf of the family, Omotola Oyediran, appreciated sympathisers, who had visited the family over the deceased.
According to her, the family is taking solace in the fact that the deceased lived a glorious life and passed away peacefully in the presence of her children, grand children and great grand children.
A Church service was held in honour of Mrs. Awolowo in the family Chapel.
The service, conducted by Venerable Emmanuel Adegbuyi and other priests from the Diocese of Remo, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), was attended by members of the family, friends and well wishers of the Awolowo family.
